Skyhorse Publishing employee says "Steady work, good atmosphere"

From Skyhorse PublishingEmployee(Current Employee)‐ Rating 5 out of 5— 1 of 1 found this helpful — Sun, 21 Oct 2018

Pros
With a reduction in the number of books targeted for publishing this year and into next, we have a steady and less stressful flow of work. Of course, challenges remain, but the array of titles is always interesting. It’s unfortunate that the company had to restructure earlier in the year and was forced to let go of some staff. The results though are more chances to get to know one another, and so more camaraderie at the office - among staff and management. Last week, the entire company went through a diversity, inclusion and harassment (sexual and other) training session. For staff it took place off-site at a law firm, for management it was held at Skyhorse, and another was held for the staff in Vermont. It was actually pretty good, with lots of food for thought and discussion - especially about unconscious bias - and I think it was appreciated by all. The company recently added a kind of rec room with ping-pong table, couch, tv…. Not too bad… I’m enjoying the atmosphere and look forward to going to work each day.

Cons
I’ve read through past reviews here trying to assess whether the major cons raised in them are valid today. I honestly can say that I don’t think so. Of course, there's always room for improvement, so the company needs to stay on its toes.

Advice to Senior Management
Keep those lines of communication with all staff open.
