Pros
As has been noted in many comments throughout this site, Skyhorse is in a constant state of accelerated growth and change, requiring all who work here to bring our best game to the company in exchange for opportunities of increased salaries and responsibilities that come with riding this bull. I came here from one of the big publishing firms, where the environment was less intense and much less interesting, and the opportunities less available. As a result, I felt less driven to apply myself fully. It's true that a lot of my "busy" work could be farmed out to others, which allowed me to focus more on the big stuff, but I've learned to embrace the additional detail work and understand that it ultimately helps my books and my authors. At Skyhorse, I feel connected to the books I work on. I have a more direct impact on their success or failure, and I take much more pride in their publication than I did in past jobs. Don't get me wrong, doing the extra work is a pain at times, but I understand the rationale for the editor following the book all the way through.

Cons
Still a hell of a lot of work. Do I have other critiques? Of course, but I've addressed them to our management and CEO and they're being dealt with. I'm writing more as a nod to this company that I've grown to respect.

Advice to Senior Management
Be very clear with prospective employees as far as expectations. Skyhorse may well be the best place for an ambitious editor to grow, but it is not for everyone.
